Orlando Magic (34-23): Orlando has won two straight after dropping five in a row. Center Dwight Howard sat out Monday because of back spasms and is questionable Tuesday. Senior vice president Pat Williams said Monday he hopes Howard and coach Stan Van Gundy both remain with the franchise in the future. Van Gundy publicly said last week Howard wanted him fired. Both parties met with Magic general manager Otis Smith, agreeing to co-exist the rest of the season and put the team first. “I think this shook them both up – that’s my opinion,” Williams said. “I think they’re going to be better for it.”

Washington Wizards (13-44): Washington received 67 points from its bench as the Wizards destroyed the lowly Charlotte Bobcats on Monday in a matchup of the NBA’s worst teams. Forwards Nene and Trevor Booker didn’t suit up for Washington and are questionable Tuesday. Guard John Wall managed only two points, but dished out 12 assists in the romp. In his previous 23 games since the All-Star break, Wall averaged 17.0 points and 7.8 assists.

NBA Betting Predictions: Philadelphia 76ers at New Jersey Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers have been sliding in the wrong direction entering Tuesday’s road game against the New Jersey Nets. Philadelphia has lost four consecutive games and could miss the Eastern Conference playoffs after beginning the season 20-9. The 76ers are tied with the New York Knicks for the final two spots with the Milwaukee Bucks close behind. New Jersey has won its last two games and defeated Philadelphia in overtime on Jan. 25.

Philadelphia 76ers (29-27): Philadelphia will see a lot of New Jersey down the stretch as Tuesday’s contest is one of three against the Nets in the final 10 games of the regular season. The 76ers also have contests against the lowly Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers. Philadelphia only has two home games remaining and concludes the season with a five-game road trip. That’s an issue with the 76ers sporting a 10-15 away mark, including losses in 11 of their last 14 road games. Also trouble is an offense that is averaging only 83.0 points during the four-game skid.


New Jersey Nets (21-37): Forward Gerald Wallace could miss the game with a hamstring injury and that means more playing time for late-season sensation Gerald Green, who scored a season-best 32 points in Sunday’s overtime victory over Cleveland. Green was promoted from the D-League on Feb. 27 and has been surprisingly good for the Nets, notching 14 double-digit performances while averaging 12.7 points. Green once was a first-round draft pick by the Boston Celtics and averaged 10.4 points in his second season before it appeared he had washed out. He had been out of the NBA since 2009 before his recent call-up.

Charlotte Bobcats vs Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday: NBA Odds

The Charlotte Bobcats have lost 12 in a row and all but clinched the league’s worst record with Monday’s loss to the Washington Wizards. The Cleveland Cavaliers, ravaged by injuries, are stuck in their own free fall and have lost 13 of their last 15 to begin Tuesday tied for the fifth-worst record in the league. The combined 25 victories between the two teams is still fewer than nine teams in the Eastern Conference and 20 teams in the NBA.

Cleveland Cavaliers (18-36): Lester Hudson has forced coach Byron Scott to rethink his “defense first” principles. Hudson hasn’t been a very good defender, but has scored 49 points in the last two games. That’s good enough to be a key contributor to a rotation that has been playing without their top three guards. Kyrie Irving (sprained shoulder) and Daniel Gibson (foot surgery) remain sidelined, while Anthony Parker (bruised sternum) is questionable.

Charlotte Bobcats (7-48): Charlotte is a woeful 3-26 on the road and hasn’t won away from home in nearly a month (March 12). Monday’s loss to the Wizards, the league’s second-worst team, separates the two teams by four games in the loss column. That should all but clinch the worst record for the Bobcats and ensure the best odds at landing the No. 1 pick in this summer’s draft. Point guard D.J. Augustin has missed the last three games with right knee tendonitis, but is hopeful of playing against the Cavaliers.

Boston Celtics (32-24): While younger clubs fade down the stretch, the Celtics’ toughness and experience has boosted them to the top of the Atlantic Division and into the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Boston made a huge statement with a 24-point victory over Philadelphia on Sunday for its seventh win in the last nine games. Defense remains the backbone in Beantown as the Celtics allowed only 81.6 points per game during that span and kept five of those opponents to less than 80 points.

 Miami Heat (40-15): Miami coach Erik Spoelstra has denied claims that he’ll rest his players down the stretch, but he did give star guard Dwyane Wade the night off against Detroit on Sunday. Wade has been nursing a sore right ankle and has missed 11 games this season, with Miami going 10-1 in those contests. LeBron James scored 26 points Sunday and is averaging 30 points when Wade is out of the lineup.

NBA Betting: Bulls Likely to Have Derrick Rose on Sunday vs. Knicks

Rose has missed 12 games with a groin injury, which he injured the last time Chicago played the Knicks. The Bulls are 8-4 in those 12 games. After missing just six in his first three seasons, Rose has missed 22 overall this season. The Bulls are 15-7 in those games. Rose practiced again fully Saturday and said he was “more than likely” to play and that the pain in his groin is gone. Coach Tom Thibodeau wouldn’t commit to that fully but said Rose is “very close” and that the Bulls are optimistic. Thibodeau labeled his star player a “game-time” decision and that Rose may be on a time limit in the beginning.

This is the first of a home-and-home with New York. The Bulls are 2-0 vs. the Knicks this season. On Feb. 2 in New York, Chicago won 105-102 behind 32 points and 13 assists from Rose. Amare Stoudemire led the Knicks with 34 points and 11 rebounds but he’s now out injured, as is point guard Jeremy Lin.

On March 12 in Chicago, the game in which Rose was injured, the Bulls won 104-99 behind 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds from Rose. Watson. Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points and Stoudemire added 20 for the Knicks, but the two combined for just seven points in the fourth quarter as the Bulls pulled away. Chicago outrebounded the Knicks 56-38.

Chicago has covered just once in the past five meetings with the Knicks. New York is 4-0 ATS in its past four games as a home underdog. The Bulls are 8-2 ATS in their past 10 as a road favorite.

Cleveland Cavaliers  (18-35): A decision on Lester Hudson’s future will have to be made after the game, since his first 10-day contract from the club is set to expire Sunday night. It shouldn’t be a tough decision. With Irving, Anthony Parker and Daniel Gibson hurt, Hudson scored a career-high 23 points in the victory over the Raptors. Hudson is a bit undersized, but can play either guard spot and provides offensive punch for a team that ranks 25th in the league in scoring.

New Jersey Nets (20-37): Point guard Deron Williams has made it clear he’s counting down the days until the season ends, but he also understands what a Nets roster comprised of himself, Lopez and Gerald Wallace means. “We’d be a playoff team,” he said. Now the question is whether or not they’ll ever play together, since all three can be free agents. This patchwork unit has still managed to play better of late to pass the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference standings, though neither team is headed to the postseason. The Nets average 93.3 points and rank 24th in scoring – one spot ahead of the Cavaliers.

Detroit Pistons (21-34): Detroit had been on a bit of a roll, winning three straight and five of six before stumbling at the start of their road trip 101-96 at Atlanta on Friday. Those victories came over the bottom of the East, however, with the Pistons taking out the Washington Wizards (twice), the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Bobcats. Miami Heat (39-15): After big home wins over the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami came out flat on Friday and was routed 97-82 by the Memphis Grizzlies. That marked the end of the 17-game winning streak and was just the third home loss of the season for the Heat. They committed 11 turnovers in the first quarter alone and never led. That was a swift departure from the level of play they had demonstrated the previous two games. LeBron James, who carried the team in the two wins, had a streak of five straight games shooting 50 percent or better come to an end with an 8-for-19 effort.

In the six games since losing forward Amar’e Stoudemire to a back injury and point guard Jeremy Lin to knee surgery, Anthony has picked up the scoring slack by averaging 27.7 points. He’s also averaging 8.0 rebounds during that stretch.

Boston Celtics (31-24): Point guard Rajon Rondo had 12 assists against the Pacers and has 16 consecutive double-digit assists outings – the longest since Utah Jazz legend John Stockton had a streak of 29 such games during the 1991-92 season. Rondo is just the fourth player in NBA history with at least 16 straight 10-assist outings. Rondo had 17 assists when the Celtics lost to the 76ers on March 23. Boston allowed just 72 points in the impressive victory over Indiana and received a boost off the bench from new reserve Ray Allen, who had 19 points and made five 3-point baskets.
