Tuesday NBA Gambling: Orlando Magic against Washington Wizards

The Orlando Magic look to continue their mastery over the host Washington Wizards on Tuesday. Orlando tries for the season series sweep and a 10th consecutive victory over Washington. The Magic are coming off a 119-89 rout of the Detroit Pistons and the Wizards snapped a five-game losing skid with a convincing 113-85 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats in their last contest. Both clubs are playing the second game of a back-to-back.

Orlando Magic (34-23): Orlando has won two straight after dropping five in a row. Center Dwight Howard sat out Monday because of back spasms and is questionable Tuesday. Senior vice president Pat Williams said Monday he hopes Howard and coach Stan Van Gundy both remain with the franchise in the future. Van Gundy publicly said last week Howard wanted him fired. Both parties met with Magic general manager Otis Smith, agreeing to co-exist the rest of the season and put the team first. “I think this shook them both up – that’s my opinion,” Williams said. “I think they’re going to be better for it.”

Washington Wizards (13-44): Washington received 67 points from its bench as the Wizards destroyed the lowly Charlotte Bobcats on Monday in a matchup of the NBA’s worst teams. Forwards Nene and Trevor Booker didn’t suit up for Washington and are questionable Tuesday. Guard John Wall managed only two points, but dished out 12 assists in the romp. In his previous 23 games since the All-Star break, Wall averaged 17.0 points and 7.8 assists.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Magic are 22-4 this season when scoring at least 100 points.

2. Orlando is 3-8 in its last 11 road games.

3. The Magic are 61-30 all-time against Washington and Orlando have scored at least 100 points in their last nine contests versus the Wizards.

NBA Betting Predictions: Philadelphia 76ers at New Jersey Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers have been sliding in the wrong direction entering Tuesday’s road game against the New Jersey Nets. Philadelphia has lost four consecutive games and could miss the Eastern Conference playoffs after beginning the season 20-9. The 76ers are tied with the New York Knicks for the final two spots with the Milwaukee Bucks close behind. New Jersey has won its last two games and defeated Philadelphia in overtime on Jan. 25.

76ers Nets Betting

When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, April 10, 2012
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, CS Philadelphia, YES (New Jersey)

The Opening Line is: OFF Point Spread OFF  Money line OFF Total OFF Click here to Bet at Bovada

Philadelphia 76ers (29-27):
Philadelphia will see a lot of New Jersey down the stretch as Tuesday’s contest is one of three against the Nets in the final 10 games of the regular season. The 76ers also have contests against the lowly Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers. Philadelphia only has two home games remaining and concludes the season with a five-game road trip. That’s an issue with the 76ers sporting a 10-15 away mark, including losses in 11 of their last 14 road games. Also trouble is an offense that is averaging only 83.0 points during the four-game skid.

New Jersey Nets (21-37):
Forward Gerald Wallace could miss the game with a hamstring injury and that means more playing time for late-season sensation Gerald Green, who scored a season-best 32 points in Sunday’s overtime victory over Cleveland. Green was promoted from the D-League on Feb. 27 and has been surprisingly good for the Nets, notching 14 double-digit performances while averaging 12.7 points. Green once was a first-round draft pick by the Boston Celtics and averaged 10.4 points in his second season before it appeared he had washed out. He had been out of the NBA since 2009 before his recent call-up.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. New Jersey had lost eight straight contests to Philadelphia prior to January’s overtime victory.

2. Nets guard Deron Williams had 34 points and 11 assists in the victory over the 76ers for one of his seven 30-point outings of the campaign.

3. 76ers forward Elton Brand has scored eight or fewer points in five of the last seven games.

Charlotte Bobcats vs Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday: NBA Odds

The Charlotte Bobcats have lost 12 in a row and all but clinched the league’s worst record with Monday’s loss to the Washington Wizards. The Cleveland Cavaliers, ravaged by injuries, are stuck in their own free fall and have lost 13 of their last 15 to begin Tuesday tied for the fifth-worst record in the league. The combined 25 victories between the two teams is still fewer than nine teams in the Eastern Conference and 20 teams in the NBA.

When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 10, 2012
Where: Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, Ohio
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Carolina (Charlotte), FS Ohio (Cleveland)

The Opening Line is: OFF Point Spread OFF  Money line OFF Total OFF Click here to Bet at Bovada

Cleveland Cavaliers (18-36):
Lester Hudson has forced coach Byron Scott to rethink his “defense first” principles. Hudson hasn’t been a very good defender, but has scored 49 points in the last two games. That’s good enough to be a key contributor to a rotation that has been playing without their top three guards. Kyrie Irving (sprained shoulder) and Daniel Gibson (foot surgery) remain sidelined, while Anthony Parker (bruised sternum) is questionable.

Charlotte Bobcats (7-48): Charlotte is a woeful 3-26 on the road and hasn’t won away from home in nearly a month (March 12). Monday’s loss to the Wizards, the league’s second-worst team, separates the two teams by four games in the loss column. That should all but clinch the worst record for the Bobcats and ensure the best odds at landing the No. 1 pick in this summer’s draft. Point guard D.J. Augustin has missed the last three games with right knee tendonitis, but is hopeful of playing against the Cavaliers.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Cavaliers have won three straight in this series and are 12-1 lifetime against the Bobcats at home.

2. Bobcats rookie Bismack Biyombo is tied for ninth in the league in blocks, averaging 1.8.

3. The Cavaliers have lost their two most recent home games by a combined 72 points.

NBA Basketball Betting: Boston Celtics visit Miami Heat on Tuesday

The 66-game schedule is a test of teams’ conditioning, so it’s a surprise that the Miami Heat, and not the veteran-laden Boston Celtics, are hitting the wall with three weeks to go. Miami Heat, which led the NBA in scoring for most of the season, is averaging less than 90 points in its last five games and has topped the century mark only twice in the last 13 outings.

Celtics Heat Betting

When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 10, 2012
Where: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida
TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN, SunSports (Miami), CS New England (Boston), ESPN3.com

The Opening Line is: OFF Point Spread OFF  Money line OFF Total OFF Click here to Bet at Bovada

Boston Celtics (32-24): While younger clubs fade down the stretch, the Celtics’ toughness and experience has boosted them to the top of the Atlantic Division and into the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Boston made a huge statement with a 24-point victory over Philadelphia on Sunday for its seventh win in the last nine games. Defense remains the backbone in Beantown as the Celtics allowed only 81.6 points per game during that span and kept five of those opponents to less than 80 points.

Miami Heat (40-15): Miami coach Erik Spoelstra has denied claims that he’ll rest his players down the stretch, but he did give star guard Dwyane Wade the night off against Detroit on Sunday. Wade has been nursing a sore right ankle and has missed 11 games this season, with Miami going 10-1 in those contests. LeBron James scored 26 points Sunday and is averaging 30 points when Wade is out of the lineup.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Chris Bosh, the other member of the Heat’s Big Three, averages 24.5 points when Wade is sidelined – more than six points above his season average.

2. These teams have split the season series, but Miami has won six of the last eight meetings.

3. Avery Bradley continues to start in place of Ray Allen. The second-year guard is averaging 13.6 points since joining the starting five March 25.

NBA Betting: Bulls Likely to Have Derrick Rose on Sunday vs. Knicks

There will be live play-by-play betting at Bovada’s NBA odds for Sunday afternoon’s national television game (1 p.m. ET, ABC) game between the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks and it appears Chicago will finally get back reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose from injury. The visiting Bulls are 2.5-point favorites at the book.

Rose has missed 12 games with a groin injury, which he injured the last time Chicago played the Knicks. The Bulls are 8-4 in those 12 games. After missing just six in his first three seasons, Rose has missed 22 overall this season. The Bulls are 15-7 in those games. Rose practiced again fully Saturday and said he was “more than likely” to play and that the pain in his groin is gone. Coach Tom Thibodeau wouldn’t commit to that fully but said Rose is “very close” and that the Bulls are optimistic. Thibodeau labeled his star player a “game-time” decision and that Rose may be on a time limit in the beginning.

This is the first of a home-and-home with New York. The Bulls are 2-0 vs. the Knicks this season. On Feb. 2 in New York, Chicago won 105-102 behind 32 points and 13 assists from Rose. Amare Stoudemire led the Knicks with 34 points and 11 rebounds but he’s now out injured, as is point guard Jeremy Lin.

On March 12 in Chicago, the game in which Rose was injured, the Bulls won 104-99 behind 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds from Rose. The Bulls won despite the absence of startersLuol Deng and Richard Hamilton, as well as key reserve C.J. WatsonCarmelo Anthony scored 21 points and Stoudemire added 20 for the Knicks, but the two combined for just seven points in the fourth quarter as the Bulls pulled away. Chicago outrebounded the Knicks 56-38.

Chicago has covered just once in the past five meetings with the Knicks. New York is 4-0 ATS in its past four games as a home underdog. The Bulls are 8-2 ATS in their past 10 as a road favorite.

NBA Betting Picks: Cleveland Cavaliers visit New Jersey Nets on Sunday

PREVIEW: The New Jersey Nets have won four of their last six, but learned recently that center Brook Lopez will not return from a broken foot this season. The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped a nine-game skid with a win at Toronto on Friday, but still have a roster ravaged with injuries. Cleveland’s top three guards, including prized rookie Kyrie Irving, are unavailable for Sunday’s game at the Prudential Center. The Cavaliers have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
TV: 6 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Ohio,

Cleveland Cavaliers  (18-35): A decision on Lester Hudson’s future will have to be made after the game, since his first 10-day contract from the club is set to expire Sunday night. It shouldn’t be a tough decision. With Irving, Anthony Parker and Daniel Gibson hurt, Hudson scored a career-high 23 points in the victory over the Raptors. Hudson is a bit undersized, but can play either guard spot and provides offensive punch for a team that ranks 25th in the league in scoring.

New Jersey Nets (20-37): Point guard Deron Williams has made it clear he’s counting down the days until the season ends, but he also understands what a Nets roster comprised of himself, Lopez and Gerald Wallace means. “We’d be a playoff team,” he said. Now the question is whether or not they’ll ever play together, since all three can be free agents. This patchwork unit has still managed to play better of late to pass the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference standings, though neither team is headed to the postseason. The Nets average 93.3 points and rank 24th in scoring – one spot ahead of the Cavaliers.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Cavaliers have taken two of three games in this series, including a win here three weeks ago when rookie Tristan Thompson had a season-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.

2. Wallace is averaging 15.5 points in 12 games for the Nets since he was acquired in a trade from Portland.

3. Nets forward Kris Humphries has averaged 16.2 points and 11.8 rebounds in his last five games, while reserve Anthony Morrow is averaging 17.3 points in his last four.

NBA Online Gambling: Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat on Sunday

PREVIEW: The Miami Heat are no longer invincible at home. Just when it looked like the Heat had flipped the switch and were set to show off their championship form in the run up to the playoffs, they were crushed by a tired Memphis Grizzlies team to snap a 17-game home winning streak. The Detroit Pistons are running through the Southeast Division gauntlet and got off to a rough start at Atlanta.

Detroit Pistons (21-34): Detroit had been on a bit of a roll, winning three straight and five of six before stumbling at the start of their road trip 101-96 at Atlanta on Friday. Those victories came over the bottom of the East, however, with the Pistons taking out the Washington Wizards (twice), the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Bobcats. A 102-95 triumph over the crumbling Orlando Magic last Tuesday represents Detroit’s only victory over a team with a winning record in the last month. The Pistons gave the Heat a scare in Detroit on Jan. 25, leading with just over a minute left before crumbling down the stretch in a 101-98 setback.

Miami Heat (39-15): After big home wins over the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami came out flat on Friday and was routed 97-82 by the Memphis Grizzlies. That marked the end of the 17-game winning streak and was just the third home loss of the season for the Heat. They committed 11 turnovers in the first quarter alone and never led. That was a swift departure from the level of play they had demonstrated the previous two games. LeBron James, who carried the team in the two wins, had a streak of five straight games shooting 50 percent or better come to an end with an 8-for-19 effort.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Miami has taken six straight in the series, including an 88-73 win on March 23.

2. Heat F Mike Miller (ankle) is working out and could return Sunday.

3. Detroit’s bench scored a season-high 57 points on Friday.

San Antonio Spurs hosts Utah Jazz on Sunday: NBA Online Gambling

PREVIEW: San Antonio Spurs can earn a 15th consecutive playoff berth and run its winning streak to a season high-tying 11 games when it hosts Utah Jazz on Sunday in the first of a back-to-back, home-and-home series. The Spurs also can take over sole possession of first place in the Western Conference. As usual, the Spurs have accomplished this feat with little fanfare and self-adulation. Utah lost the first two games this season to the Spurs, but can earn a season split with a sweep.

Utah Jazz (29-27): Utah has won two of three as it chases the final Western Conference playoff spot. Devin Harris (left ankle) returned to score a season-high 28 points in a 104-98 victory over Golden State on Friday. Al Jefferson had 30 points and 11 rebounds. “We think we have a good chance to win,” Jefferson said of playing the Spurs. “In a way, it helps that we’re playing them back-to-back. It gives us some insight as to what they want to do.”

San Antonio Spurs (39-14): San Antonio is percentage points ahead of Oklahoma City atop the West and has not lost since March 17 in Dallas. The Spurs rank first in 3-point shooting percentage (38.9) and third in scoring (102.1). “They are like a well-oiled machine,” Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. “They know what they are going to do, and they know how to get things done. It’s going to be a challenge for us.”

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. San Antonio has won five in a row over Utah and is 25-2 in the last 27 home matchups.

2. Utah’s Paul Millsap missed Saturday’s practice with flu-like symptoms, but is expected to play Sunday.

3. The Spurs scored an NBA season-high 82 points off the bench in Friday’s 128-103 victory over New Orleans.

New York leads Milwaukee by only a half-game for the final playoff spot in the East.

Chicago Bulls (43-13): Rose went through a full practice Saturday and pronounced himself “more than likely” to play Sunday, although coach Tom Thibodeau termed him a game-time decision. “My spirits are up. I felt good out there,” Rose said. The Bulls got a season-high 26 points from Luol Deng in snapping a two-game losing streak with a 95-86 win over Boston on Thursday. It was the fourth 20-point outing in five games for Deng, who was hurt the last time the teams met.

New York Knicks (28-27): New York took advantage of the sideshow in Orlando to whack the Magic 96-80 on Thursday. Carmelo Anthony scored 19 points to lead six players in double figures for the Knicks, who buried 13 of 25 3-pointers. In the six games since losing forward Amar’e Stoudemire to a back injury and point guard Jeremy Lin to knee surgery, Anthony has picked up the scoring slack by averaging 27.7 points. He’s also averaging 8.0 rebounds during that stretch.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Winners of three of the last four at Madison Square Garden, the Bulls are a league-best 21-7 away from home.

NBA Gambling: Philadelphia 76ers visit the Boston Celtics on Sunday

PREVIEW: The slumping Philadelphia 76ers have recorded two double-digit victories over Boston this season and badly need a win of any kind when they visit the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Philadelphia trails Boston by two games in the Atlantic Division race after falling to the Orlando Magic on Saturday. The 76ers have lost four of five as they begin a three-game road trip. The Celtics snapped a two-game skid by defeating the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.

Philadelphia 76ers  (29-26): Philadelphia’s starting unit was dreadful in the loss to Orlando. Not a single starter scored in double figures and they combined for only 31 points and were 13 of 44 from the field. The trio of reserves Thaddeus Young (20), Jodie Meeks (16) and Lou Williams (15) combined for 51 points to keep the 76ers in the contest, and coach Doug Collins hinted strongly that another sub-par outing against Boston will result in changes. “We can’t keep digging ourselves a hole like that,” Collins said. “Just can’t do it.”

Boston Celtics (31-24): Point guard Rajon Rondo had 12 assists against the Pacers and has 16 consecutive double-digit assists outings – the longest since Utah Jazz legend John Stockton had a streak of 29 such games during the 1991-92 season. Rondo is just the fourth player in NBA history with at least 16 straight 10-assist outings. Rondo had 17 assists when the Celtics lost to the 76ers on March 23. Boston allowed just 72 points in the impressive victory over Indiana and received a boost off the bench from new reserve Ray Allen, who had 19 points and made five 3-point baskets.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Boston scored a season-low 71 points while losing to the Sixers by 32 on March 7.

2. The Celtics have held 12 straight opponents under 100 points.

3. Philadelphia is just 9-17 after starting the season 20-9.
